PML-N nominates Rana Tanveer for chairman PAC
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominated the party’s parliamentary leader Rana Tanveer for the post of chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday.
The decision was taken by party president and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif. Shehbaz met party supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Rana Tanveer will replaced Shehbaz Sharif as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman. The party will nominate former foreign minister Khawaja Asif as its parliamentary leader.
PML-N’s Marriyum Aurangzeb brushed aside reports that Shehbaz Sharif had also resigned from the post of leader of the opposition.
She described such reports as ‘baseless’ and said that Shehbaz would continue to lead the opposition in exposing the government’s inefficiency and inability.
“Shahbaz made the decision [to relinquish the PAC and parliamentary leader’s roles] after consultation with party supremo Nawaz Sharif,” claimed the party’s media team.
Shehbaz Sharif’s election as the PAC chairman came about after a four-month long tussle between the treasury and opposition benches.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and his allies had said that Shehbaz was unworthy of being elected PAC chairman as he was facing charges of corruption and financial embezzlement.
However, Sharif was elected as the PAC chairman in December.
Rana Tanveer was elected from NA-120, Sheikhupura-II. He has previously served as Minister for Defence Production and Minister for Science and Technology.
