PM Imran launches Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship program aimed at providing scholarships to 200, 000 students.
According to PTI government, it is the largest ever need based undergraduate program in the history of Pakistan. Under this program, two hundred thousand scholarships will be awarded over the next four years.
Fifty percent of these scholarships will go to women to promote human capital development under the umbrella of Ehsaas program.
PM Khan appreciated the Ehsaas Program, saying it would lead to big change in society.
“If you don’t provide good education & employment, even if he is intelligent & vibrant, what will he do if neither he has good job nor he gets a chance to educate himself & get job somewhere else, you close all doors on him; in the end what choice does he have?,” PM asked.
PM Khan lamented that madrassa students had been ignored in the past.
“Unfortunately, our colonial system which never evolved; we started three paralles systems of English Medium Urdu Medium and Madarassa system. No one ever tried to eradicate this social injustice.
“Last that I heard, almost 8 lac kids are in English medium, about 3 crore kids are in Urdu medium and almost 25 lac kids are in Reiligious Madrassas. No society in the world gives such unjust treatment to their kids.”
He announced that government would open Langar Khanas across the country.
In her tweet, Special Assistant on Social Protection & Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar said the PTI government is committed to promoting financial access to education and offers an equal opportunity to women.
