ISLAMABAD: The federal government has granted one-time permission to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to go abroad for a period of four weeks.

Addressing a news conference, Law Minister Farogh Nasim said there is only one condition that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif submit an indemnity bond to the tune of seven billion rupees to avail the concession.

The minister said a written order will be issued at any time today and now it is up to Nawaz Sharif and his family to accept or reject the permission.

The decision has been made according to law keeping in view the element of fairness, the minister said.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahzad Akbar said health issues should not be politicised and government tried its best to facilitate Nawaz Sharif on humanitarian grounds. He said the federal government has attached the condition of surety bond to assure that Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan after four weeks to face cases pending against him in various courts of law.

He said it is one-time special permission to Nawaz Sharif facilitating him to go abroad for medical treatment as name of a convicted person cannot be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL)

Rejecting the impression of any deal, Shahzad Akbar said that the government has taken this decision purely on merit.
