The US Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) expressed concern over the ‘continued harassment’ of human rights activist Gulalai Ismail’s family, on Friday.

Taking to Twitter, the bureau encouraged Pakistan ‘to uphold citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly, expression, and due process’.

Gulalai, who fled Pakistan a few weeks ago, has claimed that her family is being harassed by the security establishment in Pakistan.

Gulalai claimed that her father was arrested and her family was being harassed as a consequence of her speaking out against the country’s powerful military establishment.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also expressed its concern over the alleged harassment of Gulalai’s family.

Gulalai claimed that her father had been picked up from the Peshawar High Court on Thursday.
