Sheikh Rashid blames passengers for RYK train tragedy
ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rashid held passengers responsible for a fire that killed at least 62 passengers in a train near Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday.
“It is’t Railway’s fault. Passengers are to blame for the tragedy,” Rashid told media persons.
An economy class bogey carrying members of Tableeghi jamaat caught fire after a cylinder explosion, he said.
Rashid said that many people died after they jumped off the moving train. The injured were being shifted to hospitals in Rahimyar Khan, Bahwalpur and Multan, where there are burns units.
He said that the fire had been brought under fire and burned bogies were detached from the train.
The railway minister said that two cylinders exploded in the bogies.
He also promised an inquiry to ascertain how passengers had managed to take cylinders inside the train. “It is unfortunate that passengers take cylinders with them. They have no fear of law,” he added.
