MAO College principal removed over negligence in professor’s suicide case
The principal of Government MAO College, Dr Farhan Ebadat Yar has been removed from position over negligence in handling the harassment case against deceased lecturer Muhammad Afzal.
The decision came after the inquiry committee its report, said a notification issued by the government of Punjab late Monday.
The vice-principal of the college Riaz Hashmi has been handed the additional charge of the principal.
The Higher Education Department (HED) of Punjab presented a summary after launching an inquiry into the matter. The report stated that Dr Farhan did not rightly address the concerns of the deceased.
The committee also learnt that the principal also did not maintain professional behavior with staff and faculty members and often avoided his responsibilities.
Muhammad Afzal, a professor at the Government MAO College took his life over allegations of sexual assault, which were later disclosed as untrue.
The college authorities had failed to clear his name by not issuing an exoneration in writing as he was asking for after being verbally cleared of the allegation leveled against him as Afzal mentioned in his suicide note had caused considerable damage to his reputation.
