ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to place JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman under house arrest if talks with the opposition party fails to yield any result, Geo reported.

According to a high-level meeting, the government has decided to stop the JUI-F from marching on Islamabad even it has to detain Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Geo quoted unnamed sources of the interior ministry as saying that the JUI-F leader will be taken into custody before his planned march on October 31.

Sources told the news channel that Maulana can be arrested on October 26. According to sources, the government cannot afford to detain Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday as it is wary of strong reaction from JUI-F’s supporters.

Apart from Maulana Fazlur Rehman, eight top JUI-F leaders can also be placed under house arrest for a period of 90 days

The government is also planning to impose a ban on JUI-F-affiliated Ansar ul Islam and a summary in this regard has also been forwarded to Prime Minister Imran Khan for approval.

Among other options, a proposal is under consideration to mobile phone services in Islamabad and other cities on October 30 to crack down on JUI-F activists and supporters.
