ATC acquits all Sahiwal killing suspects
LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday ordered the acquittal of security personnel accused of killing a family in Sahiwal in January this year.
The suspects – Safdar Hussain, Ahsan Khan, Ramzan, Saifullah, Husnain and Nasir have been acquitted over lack of evidence.
Four members of a family, including their teenage daughter were gunned down by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel near Sahiwal.
Initially CTD insisted that those killed were terrorist accomplices, but a JIT formed to probe the matter declared the family as innocent.
The victims were from Lahore.
Khalil’s suriving son Umair Khalil, said the incident took place when they were on their way to attend the wedding ceremony of his uncle Rizwan in Burewala.
“My father had asked the law-enforcers to check their vehicle and told them that there were no weapons,” he told media.
