PML-N to approach court amid row with govt over travel ban
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) will file a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking removal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s name from the exit control list (ECL).
The move came a day after the federal government refused to let former prime minister Nawaz Sharif fly abroad without submitting a surety bond worth Rs7 billion.
According to sources, PML-N has already asked its legal team to prepare a petition. The party, in its meeting today, will formulate its next course of action on political and legal fronts.
Speaking in the assembly, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif lamented the waste of 15 days due to government’s indecision.
“Nawaz Sharif never wanted to go abroad. When Pakistani doctors recommended the former prime minister go to the US for further treatment,” he said.
Khawaja Asif slammed the government for playing politics after Nawaz Sharif agreed to travel abroad for treatment.
“Wish Farogh Nasim had given the same arguments for Nawaz Sharif which he had made for Musharraf,” he added.
He said that government’s delaying tactics were akin to playing with Nawaz Sharif’s life.
Yesterday, the party expressed resentment over the federal cabinet subcommittee’s decision that allowed Sharif to go abroad for four weeks only for his medical treatment by submitting surety bonds to the government.
The party stated that how could someone guarantee that Sharif’s health would recover within four weeks. Terming the subcommittee’s indemnity bond condition as unlawful, the PML-N said that the surety bonds have already been deposited in the courts. “Decision of the cabinet’s subcommittee is beyond comprehension,” the party said.
According to a statement issued by Marriyum Aurangzeb, the government’s decision to condition Nawaz Sharif’s medical treatment abroad is based on Imran Khan’s prejudice and political revenge. “At the time of bail, all constitutional and legal requirements were completed, and bail bonds were also submitted”, she expressed, adding that conditioning removal of Nawaz Sharif’s name from the ECL is an incomprehensible decision.
She asserted there could not be a government court above the court. The PML-N has made a clear stance on the submission of security bonds.
