About time people start realizing that Shaniera Akram’s identity does not entirely revolve around her husband’s reputation.

During one of the sessions at the 6th Islamabad Literature Festival, where panelists Nadeem F. Paracha, Fasi Zaka, Ali Aftab Saeed, and George Fulton were addressing the gathering, a woman schooled Paracha for constantly referring to Shaniera as Wasim Akram’s wife.

“She has a name!” she exclaimed. The crowd cheered with applause.

At this, Paracha said, “I actually forgot her name, and then wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it would be silly if I pronounced it wrong.”

Shaniera Akram, who has been vocal on various human rights and environmental issues, also lauded the woman for maintaining her honour at the session.

Shaniera tweeted a response to what took place as well, writing, “Who is this amazing woman? #SheHasAName You go girl!”

Shaniera also brought the clarification on board that she doesn’t consider herself a celebrity but has gained enough recognition to be referred by her own name.
