Former Karachi police chief, ex-FIA director Shahid Hayat passes away
KARACHI: Former Karachi police chief and ex-FIA director, Shahid Hayat, passed away on Tuesday night, according to his family.
Hayat, a joint director-general at the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been undergoing treatment for cancer at Agha Khan hospital. His funeral prayers will be offered today (Wednesday) at the Garden Police headquarters in Karachi. His burial will take place in Dera Ismail Khan, his native town.
According to a report in Dawn, Hayat was scheduled to join the Pakistan High Commission in the United Kingdom. Apart from being the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) in Karachi, Hayat had also served as the FIA’s Director South.
During his career, Hayat was involved in lots of high profile cases. He was heading the investigation into the murder of Shahzeb in Karachi and another man who was known as the ‘whte corollah wala’.
However, he was most known for his investigation into the death of slain PPP leader Mir Murtaza Bhutto. Hayat arrested several suspects in the deadly Abbas bombing case and was also heading an investigation into the fake degrees scandal involving software company Axact.
