ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has disapproved of the verdict of an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) which acquitted all the suspects in the Sahiwal incident.

The prime minister directed the interior ministry on Friday to challenge the verdict by filing an appeal. The interior ministry has been asked to form a committee to probe the matter.

Imran Khan also ordered concerned authorities to present a report to the Prime Minister Office and the Interior Ministry.

A day earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) ordered the acquittal of security personnel accused of killing a family in Sahiwal in January this year.

The suspects – Safdar Hussain, Ahsan Khan, Ramzan, Saifullah, Husnain and Nasir have been acquitted over lack of evidence.

Four members of a family, including their teenage daughter, were gunned down by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel near Sahiwal.

The court dismissed the statements of the 49 witnesses including the victim Zeeshan’s brother Ehtisham and victim’s Khalil’s children. The witnesses refused to identify the suspects before the court.
