Police arrest Hamdard University student Misbah’s killer
KARACHI: Police claim they’ve caught a man who allegedly shot dead the Hamdard University student Misbah in a robbery bid, on Wednesday.
Misbah Ather,a fourth-year-student of Bachelor’s of Eastern Medicine and Surgery, was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal on October 3.
Misbah was shot after she resisted robbery. She died on the spot.
East SSP Ghulam Mahesar held a press conference to announce that the suspect who opened fire on Misbah had been arrested.
The SSP claimed that the man who shot her was an Afghan national and several cases against him had been registered in different police stations.
“At least six cases have been registered against him at different police stations,” said the SSP during the presser. “Police have also recovered Misbah’s cell phone.”
According to the SSP, the suspect has been named in child abuse, rape, kidnapping and murder cases as well. He’s also accused of helping murderers dispose bodies.
He claimed that the Afghan suspect had gone to jail three times and had been let out on parole. The SSP said that the suspect was then employed by Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
“Later, he disguised himself and joined a religious group,” he said.
The other suspect is still at large. The suspect, according to the SSP, had joined a 20-member gang.
“Two members of the gang have been killed in the past while three are in jail,” he said.
