This Thursday, Minar-e-Pakistan was illuminated with pink light to raise awareness about breast cancer. The event was part of the PINKtober campaign organised by Pink Ribbon.

Pink Ribbon CEO Omer Aftab said that illuminating Minar-e-Pakistan was an honour, as it has symbolic importance. “We are here to pledge that we will defeat breast cancer together as our forefathers once pledged to obtain an independent homeland,” he said.

He said that, with the support of the government of Pakistan and other organisations, Pink Ribbon is committed to spreading breast cancer awareness in Pakistan and building breast cancer hospitals all over the nation.

The first of these, the Pink Ribbon Hospital, the first facility of its kind in Pakistan, will be a state-of-the-art medical facility and will serve more than 40,000 patients every year. It will be partially operational by June 2020.
