Iraq accepts Pakistan’s request to grant visas to zaireens

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari has said that the government has raised the issue of difficulties being faced by Pakistani pilgrims with the Iraqi government.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Bukhari said that Iraq would try to process as many visa applications as possible in the next two to three days.

He also thanked the Government of Iraq for its swift response to Pakistan’s request.

“Over growing concerns to remove difficulties currently being faced by #Zaireen, case was taken up & Iraqi gov has heeded our request. We‘ll try to process as many as possible in the next 2-3 days & facilitate to the best of our ability-special thanks to the gov of #Iraq,” Bukhari tweeted.

According to sources, thousands of Pakistanis intending to observe Arbaeen in Karbala were awaiting to hear about their visas for several weeks now.

Many even flew to Iran hoping to get the visa for traveling to Iraq for marking Arbaeen.
