Court grants bail to Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia case
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday suspended the sentence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for eight weeks in Al-Azizia reference.
A two-member judge bench comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Mohsin Akhtar Kayani announced the verdict on the plea seeking bail on medical grounds.
The jury sat on the issue earlier today after Shahbaz Sharif filed the plea for his brother’s sentence in the case last week.
The high court issued that if Mian Nawaz’s health did not improve in eight weeks, then the Punjab government can be approached for a bail extension.
The former prime minister is also required to submit two bail bonds worth Rs2 million.
The court in the same case had granted the former premier bail on Saturday.
Nawaz Sharif has already been granted bail in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case after his family filed a plea citing critical health condition.
Doctors saw a critical drop in his platelets count but assured that the PML-N Quaid was neither suffering from bone cancer nor dengue. Nawaz’s reports diagnosed him with acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).
