Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an “Indian state” following his speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) session in Geneva.

“India is trying to give an impression to the world that life has returned to normalcy. If the life has returned to normalcy, then I say, why don’t they allow you, the international media, why don’t they allow the international organisations, the NGOs, civil society organisations to go into the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and see for themselves what the reality is.

At this, Journalist Gharida Farooqi criticised the foreign minister for calling Jammu and Kashmir an “Indian state” and protested that Shah Mehmood Qureshi should be removed from the post of foreign minister.

“FM SMQ must be immediately sacked and removed from his post for calling #Kashmir an ‘Indian State’ at Geneva talking to Indian Media. If he is not removed, Pakistanis & Kashmiris would be right to believe this is the new policy of those who appointed him!”, the national television host wrote.

Responding to her ire, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf slammed the journalist for scandalising a slip of tongue and asked her to remember her blunders made in the heat of moment.

“Gharidah if we count the “slip of tongues” that have actually been anti state by u over the years,u would be out of job. PM IK had once told u that “aap bohat low intellect ki baatein kar rahi hain”. We can totally understand why he said that; causing damage to an important cause,” the ruling party tweeted via its official account.

Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry also called out the journalist for making a harsh statement over a slip of tongue.
