Six policemen nominated in FIR for torturing Christian man to death
LAHORE: Six policemen were nominated in the murder FIR of a Christian man, on Tuesday.
According to details, a Christian man named Amir Masih was allegedly tortured to death by six policemen, including a sub-inspector in Lahore.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s brother. According to police, Amir’s brother claimed that the deceased was called to North Cantt police station by sub-inspector Zeeshan on August 28. He was then taken to an unknown location where he was allegedly tortured to death.
Masih worked as a gardener in Lahore’s PF colony. According to the FIR, Zeeshan had called Amir as he was working with a civilian named Rana Mohammad Hanif. Rana has also been nominated in the FIR.
Masih’s family approached the police station when they got to know that the sub-inspector had called him at North Cantt police station.
On September 2, Zeeshan and two other police officers handed over Masih to his relatives. He succumbed to his injury at Service Hospital, where he was taken.
IGP Punjab Arif Nawaz Khan had taken notice of the incident and ordered suspects to be arrested. The IGP also asked for a report on the matter to be submitted to him.
The IGP ordered Zeeshan, Investigation Officer Nasir Baig and four other officers to be taken into custody. Zeeshan remains at large while Nasir and the other police officers have been arrested.
“No officer will be spared if such crime was reported in any part of the province,” read a handout issued by the Punjab IGP’s office.
