RAWALPINDI: DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor warned India not to commit any misadventure against Pakistan and should keep in mind February 27 before they provoke Pakistan.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that India was sowing the seeds of war at a time when the entire region was moving towards peace.

“I want to tell the Indian government that wars are not fought by bombs and weapons alone,” he said. “They are fought with capability and the confidence of the nation. Keep February 27 in mind. Any misadventure from your end and we will strike back,” he added.

The DG ISPR said that if peace was achieved in Afghanistan, then 200,000 Pakistani soldiers stationed on the eastern border will be withdrawn from there.

“India is afraid and wants Pakistan to be engaged on that border with Afghanistan,” he said.

DG ISPR said that resolution of the Kashmir issue was in Pakistan’s national interest. He said that Kashmir was now being discussed internationally.

“I want to tell the people of Kashmir that we stand with you. Your struggle for freedom has been interpreted by India as terrorism. We have stood with you, we stand with you and we will always keep standing with you,” he said. “I believe the time for independence of Kashmir has come. Remain steadfast,” he added.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan would continue to fight for the people of Kashmir and was willing to go to any end to achieve that.

“Pakistan is ready to fight till the last bullet, last soldier and last breath for the people of Kashmir,” he said.

He said that Prime Minister Khan had extended a hand of friendship towards India but Modi had sent warplanes in response.

In response to a question, he said that no deal between India and Pakistan had been reached courtesy President Trump on the issue of Kashmir.

“President Trump is a very straightforward person. He says what he likes and what he doesn’t like to your face,” he said. “No compromise has been reached on the issue of Kashmir. Over our dead bodies. We will never back down on the issue of Kashmir,” he added.

In response to another question, DG ISPR said that a full spectrum response from Pakistan should be expected on the issue of Kashmir.

“It is not the job of the foreign minister to announce war. It is his job to prevent war via diplomacy,” he said. “When it comes to the military, we talk about warfare. As I said before, war becomes an option only out of compulsion, not by choice,” he added. “If the prime minister has said that we will go to any limit then we will go to that limit.”

General Bajwa extension

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa did not want to take the extension but he had to, keeping in mind Pakistan’s current situation.

“After 41 years of service, every man wants to retire and enjoy life,” he said. “Heavy lies the head that wears the crown.”

He said that it was the prerogative of the prime minister to extend his tenure.

“Even the Chinese president, for the first time in the country’s history, extended the tenure of the Chinese army’s chief. So this is nothing unusual,” he added.
