Court exonerates Karachi woman in cat run-over case
KARACHI: A judicial magistrate’s court acquitted a woman accused of running over a car and not stopping the vehicle to help the animal.
The complainant, Faiq Ali Jagirani, took the suspect to court over violence of animal rights violence.
Tehmina has been accused of running her vehicle over the cat and when the complainant asked her to take the injured animal to a hospital, she refused and sped away in her car.
According to the accused, she was reversing her car and was unable to see the animal who accidentally came under the tires.
She contended that the cat was not a domestic one. She requested the court to stop her imminent arrest, assuring that she will face the trial.
The judicial magistrate’s court acquitted the woman due to lack of evidence and asked her to submit bail bonds worth Rs30,000.
The case was filed in February in the Darkhashan police station under Section 429 of Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to animal rights and the culprit can face up to five years in jail, Geo News reported.
The complainant had affirmed that he will pursue the matter to ensure that the person at fault gets a sentence for the cruelty.
