Mehwish Hayat is a talent we all can see making a big name. For all her contributions outside the entertainment industry, there is no denying the veteran actress is actually Pakistan’s iron lady.
1) She called for a hockey revival in Pakistan
Mehwish Hayat told journalists at the Abdul Sattar Hockey Stadium in Karachi that, just like Pakistani cinema has been revived, sports such as hockey also need a revival in Pakistan. She truly is one of the major supporters of progress in Pakistan, in all sectors. Since it is Pakistan’s national sport, it deserves more attention.
Visited Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey stadium & was appalled at wht I saw. Can’t believe that our national sport has fallen into such neglect. Frm the most successful team in the world; 4x world champions 3x Olympic Gold to no.17(lowest)in the world. Let’s not dwell on blame but ..1/2

Why have all channels of communications in Kashmir been blocked? Why are the views of the Kashmiri people being suppressed? What are the Indians trying to hide? In the world’s biggest democracy shouldn’t freedom of speech be a basic human right?? #StandwithKashmir #KashmirBleeds

The use of cluster bombs in Kashmir is in clear violation of the Geneva Convention. There is no justification for it whatsoever. These are simple war crimes – the world has to wake up and put a stop to these atrocities NOW! #SaveKashmirSOS #KashmirBleeds

6) She gives out patriot vibes
On Pakistan Day, she posted: “But let’s remember what the Quaid said, ‘There are two powers in the world. One is the sword and the other the pen. However, there is a third power stronger than both, that of the women.’ #pakistanzindabad Pakistan hai to hum hain!”. She truly is an icon and inspiration for all women.
She represents Pakistan in an incredibly positive light all over the world.

7) She received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
For her amazing performances in film and TV, she received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. When criticised, she was able to shut down trolls with a cool.
“A man is never questioned on the merit of receiving an award…I have been awarded in the category of acting. If any other [female] actor was given the same award, they would be trolled too,” she responded to the controversies.
8) She wrote a powerful CNN opinion piece
She spoke of the danger that comes with people like Priyanka Chopra’s brand of patriotism, stating that people should aim for peace and unity, not divisiveness.
She sid people like Priyanka Chopra are the reason celebrities are told not to talk about serious social and political issues, and the reason Mehwish herself has had to pick her battles when it comes to her speeches.
“My intention when speaking about women’s rights, girls’ education, or supporting humanitarian charity work is to unite people — not divide them,” she wrote.
9) She gave a truly amazing speech on the importance of peace and the misrepresentation Pakistan has undergone in mainstream media
Mehwish Hayat gave a rousing speech in Oslo, Norway, whilst receiving the Pride of Performance award. She talked about the fact that India uses their film industry to depict Pakistanis in a negative light, rather than aiming for accurate depictions and fostering the peace they talk so much about. Everyone immediately hailed her as an icon, and the few Indians that tried to object were shut down by her in seconds.
Bollywood could have used cinema to promote mutual understanding instead of vilifying us as they do. They need to decide which is more important – nationalistic fervour or a peaceful future . pic.twitter.com/EzcK4L0zWD
