PM Khan hails UNSC decision to sit on Kashmir issue
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday welcomed the United Nations Security Council on its decision to address the situation of occupied Kashmir in its meeting.
In a statement on Twitter, the prime minister said taking cognizance of the suffering of the Kashmiri people was the responsibility of the global forum.
“I welcome the UNSC meeting to discuss the serious situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It is for the first time in over 50 yrs that the world’s highest diplomatic forum has taken up this issue.”
“The UNSC meeting was a reaffirmation of these resolutions. Therefore addressing the suffering of the Kashmiri people and ensuring resolution of the dispute is the responsibility of this world body,” he added.
A day earlier, the UN Security Council sat on the Kashmir issue for the first time in 50 years, refraining the ‘parties involved’ from taking any unilateral action.
The closed door meeting went with briefings were given on the situation and consultations will take place to decide how to proceed further.
