Pakistan shuts Samjhauta Express services
Pakistan has suspended the services of the Samjhauta Express, the only cross-border train service to India.
Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed announced complete shutdown of the bi-weekly train that operated between Delhi and Attari in India and Lahore in Pakistan.
During a press conference today, the railway minister said the government cannot remain silent on the ongoing tragedies in occupied Kashmir.
The decision came two days after India removed the special status for Kashmir and split it into two union territories.
India’s move was preceded by a communication blackout, arbitrary detention of political leaders, banned movement and meetings of people, and increased military presence, purportedly to quell protests.
