Fawad Chaudhry dubs PEMRA’s Eid order ‘totally unnecessary intervention’
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has criticized the country’s electronic media watchdog for asking satellite TV channels to refrain from running special Eid programs in order to express solidarity with Kashmir.
“Totally unnecessary intervention, media houses ll suffer millions of losses, such actions needs to be discouraged,” the minister tweeted.
His reaction came after Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notified all channels to avoid broadcasting of any special programmes that are celebratory in nature, noting the show must not hurt the emotions of Kashmiri brethren.
Same has been requested on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations, the notification said, further urging that August 15 should be regarded as Black Day.
The decision comes in solidarity with the Kashmiris after the Indian government stripped the occupied Kashmir of its special status by revoking Article 370 and 35A.
