SRINAGAR: Indian politician and activist Shehla Rashid lashed out at the BJP and Indian government on Saturday, highlighting the atrocities in Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter, Shehla shared the ordeal in Indian-held Kashmir after Article 370 was revoked.

“My mother navigated dozens of checkpoints and difficulties and called me from the DC Office. She was agitated, crying over the phone and asking where I am, if I’ve been arrested, whether I’m okay. Spoke to her after 7 days. I hope BJP pays for this, for separating families on Eid,” she tweeted.

The Indian government claims that the region has been peaceful ever since New Delhi revoked Article 370 of the constitution. India revoked Kashmir’s independent status and bifurcated the area into two territories.

Pakistan protested strongly against the unilateral decision and suspended trade ties with India. Thirteen members of the Indian diplomatic staff left for India on Saturday with their families.

Shehla is an Indian politician and activist. She joined the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement political party, founded by Shah Faesal on 17 March 2019. Shehla is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
