Gujranwala judge summons Bizenjo over ISI chief statement
GUJRANWALA: An Additional Sessions Judge summoned Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo to court on August 8 regarding his statement about the ISI chief.
According to details, Gujranwala Additional Session Judge Tariq Saleem Chohan summoned the senator on Friday after his controversial statement involving ISI chief Lt Gen. Faiz Hameed.
The petition was filed by lawyer Manzoor Qadir Bhinder, who urged the court to direct the city’s CPO to register a case against Bizenjo.
The petition claimed that Bizenjo had made a ‘baseless and false’ statement against the leader of a key state institution. He said that this was an attempt by Bizenjo to malign and discredit a key leader of the Pakistan Army.
On Thursday, the opposition was left embarrassed after it emerged that 14 senators of it had deflected to the government side in the no-trust motion filed against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
The motion failed to pass as the vote tally fell short by three counts. This happened despite the opposition enjoying a clear majority in the upper house of the parliament.
Opposition parties have lashed out at the government and claimed that horsetrading took place in the parliament. The government, on the other hand, claims that the opposition senators who voted against the no-trust motion, were fond of Sanjrani.
After the result had been announced, Bizenjo claimed that it had been ISI chief Lt.Gen.Faiz Hameed’s ‘people’ who had voted against him. Bizenjo was the joint candidate of the opposition parties for the post of senate chairman.
DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor also tweeted against Bizenjo’s statement, saying that his words won’t serve democracy.
“Remarks by Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo implicating head of national premier institution are unfounded. The tendency to bring entire democratic process into disrepute for petty political gains doesn’t serve democracy,” he tweeted.
