ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal accused the PTI government of cracking national unity by arresting PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz.

Taking to Twitter shortly after Maryam Nawaz’ arrest on Thursday, Ahsan Iqbal lamented that Maryam Nawaz was arrested within 24 hours of consensus resolution on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

He questioned the government’s motive behind arresting Maryam.

“Within 24 hrs of consensus resolution on Kashmir issue by Parliament, government cracks national unity by arresting Maryam Nawaz. Whose agenda is it following? What is it trying to hide on Kashmir by deflecting issue of Kashmir?” he asked.

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz from Kot Lakhpat jail.

The bureau had summoned the daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif for questioning in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case but she requested pardon in order to meet her father.

NAB officials took Maryam into custody today when she arrived at Kot Lakpath jail to meet her father who is serving jail time in Avenfield case.
