We had Allah with us: England captain Eoin Morgan
England captain Eoin Morgan said that all-rounder Adil Rashid told him before the ICC Men’s World Cup final 2019 that ‘Allah is with us’.
England became world champions of cricket after their thrilling victory over New Zealand in the final on Sunday. Eoin Morgan’s men lifted the cup after a run-out ensured that they had won the match at the end of the super over.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Morgan said that all-rounder Adil Rashid had said that ‘Allah is with us’ to him.
“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil Rashid, he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green. That actually epitomises our team. We’re from quite diverse backgrounds and cultures and guys grow up in different countries. To actually find humour in the situation we were in at times was pretty cool,” he said.

Morgan hoped that the win would inspire more English fans to pursue cricket as a career and follow the sport avidly.
Lady luck smiled on England during the final as Ben Stokes was awarded an extra four runs when a throw resulted in the ball deflecting from his bat and running to the boundary for four runs.
A thrilling super over tie ensured that New Zealand were not able to beat England. Many people on Twitter showed love for New Zealand and Kane Williamson for the fighting spirit the black caps demonstrated.
New Zealand skipper Williamson said that he felt ‘gutted’ over the loss.
