Was told not to wear jeans or sleeveless because I was ‘big’: Zara Noor Abbas
Pakistani actress Zara Noor Abbas said that she was told earlier on not to wear jeans or sleeveless shirts because she was ‘big’.
Ever since she made her debut in the drama serial ‘Dharkan’ Zara has been making waves across the Pakistani showbiz industry. She recently appeared opposite Mehwish Hayat and Azfar Rehman in ‘Challawa’ to critical acclaim.
However, in an interview with the BBC Asian Network, Zara said that she had faced a lot of body-shaming over the years.
“I was body-shamed for a very very long time on social media, of course, I had to block out of it because if I keep on listening to them than I am going to lose focus,” she said.
Zara said that most people passed rude comments about her weight on social media but she knew that ignoring them was the only way.
“There was a point in time when I had to tell myself to stop and make it a point where I have to embrace myself and embrace my flaws, no matter what size I am my talent is not going to suffer because of that,” she said.
Zara said that at times it became so frequent that she thought she would put up pictures of herself and do it twice just to be rebellious to people.
The actress said that she never let body-shaming or rude comments top her from being who she wanted to be.
On how she handled all the criticism, Zara said:-
“I think criticism always is very hurtful. I have met people who have come up to me and asked me to go for liposuction and to get a few parts of my body cut but it has always hurt me, it has always made me cry, it has always made me sob about my identity,” she said.
