There are more videos with names of ‘serving officials’: Maryam Nawaz
LAHORE: PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz warned on Thursday that she was in possession of more videos that contained the names of ‘serving officials’, calling for the immediate release of her father, Nawaz Sharif.
The PML-N vice president was speaking to media, flanked by Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Uzma Bokhari and Javed Hashmi. Maryam said that she did not intend to confront institutions.
“My sole purpose of releasing that video was to prove the innocence of my father. That is my only purpose,” she said. “If I wanted a clash with institutions, I would have released other videos which mention the names of some ‘serving officials’,” she said.
Maryam ruled out any retrial of her father, Nawaz Sharif, and said that the video had proven that he was innocent.
“My father should have been immediately released following the video,” she said. “We do not want a retrial–rather, we demand the immediate release of Nawaz Sharif,” she added.
Maryam said that the option for PML-N lawmakers to resign from the assemblies and take to the streets was available on the table.
“We have the option to resign and go for mid-term polls but the joint opposition will make the final call about that,” she said.
Maryam said that she would have to face hardships once the video was released but said that she was willing to pay the sacrifice. The PML-N vice president said that she and Nawaz Sharif would never expose the video which was used to malign the accountability judge.
“Me and Nawaz Sharif have neither seen that video nor will we ever use it to expose the judge,” she said.
Maryam lashed out at Prime Minister Khan and said that he was too immature to understand the intricacies of foreign policy.
“Nodding to someone else’s statement does not mean that he raised the issue himself,” she said, referring to Prime Minister Khan and Donald Trump’s discussion on mediation in Kashmir.
Maryam warned the prime minister that PML-N leaders were ready to go to jail but would not give in to his injustice.
