Vote count begins after daylong polling in new KP districts
PESHAWAR: Vote count got under way in newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the historic day of polling in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The balloting took place in 16 districts from 8am to 5 pm.
There were a total of 1,897 polling stations set up for the election, 554 of which are highly-sensitive and security forces have been deployed inside and outside those polling stations.
282 candidates are vying for the 16 general seats, including nominees for the ruling Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf, JUI-F, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan People’s Party, and independents.
According to the provincial election commissioner, results in the tribal districts will be given on WhatsApp due to a network issue in the area.
Two women are also contesting the provincial election to be held in the tribal areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
