At least 19 die in military plane crash in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI – At least 19 people died and 16 other were wounded on Tuesday morning when an Army Aviation plane crashed into a residential area in Rawalpindi in the wee hours of Tuesday, Dunya News reported.
The plane was on routine flight when it crashed near Rabi Plaza. Two pilots and three crew members of the plane were among the dead, according to the ISPR.
Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Bilal Akbar visited the site where he was briefed about the mishap.
According to ISPR, the army personnel who died in the plane crash included Lt Col Saqib and Wasim, Naib Subedar Afzal, Hawaldar Ibne Amin and Rahmat.
Fire brigade and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi.
The victims have been identifed as Jameel, Rubeena, Zuhaib, Pari, Fatima, Uzma, Bashir, Abdul Hafeez, Rahila, Faizan, Faiza, Abdur Rauf and Amna Bibi.
At least three houses collapsed as a result of the crash.
The death toll is feared to go up as some people are still trapped in the wreckage.
