ISLAMABAD: A strange scene was witnessed in parliament when a state minister criticised former military dictator Ayub Khan but his grandson Omar Ayub was seen thumping his desk in appreciation.

Minister of State for Revenue, Hammad Azhar, was speaking at a budget session of the parliament. Opposition lawmakers were thwarting Azhar’s attempts to make the speech by making noise.

In response, Hammad lashed out at the opposition and slammed military dictators Zia-ul-Haq, Pervaiz Musharraf and Ayub Khan.

“I have listened to their speeches for 13 hours on end but they don’t have the patience to listen to my speech,” he said. “This is due to the fact that these people are remnants of military dictators like Zia-ul-Haq, Musharraf and Ayub Khan,” he said.

Interestingly, Ayub Khan’s grandson, Omar Ayub, who is the federal minister for power, could also be seen thumping his desk in appreciation.
