Govt removes federal tax ombudsman Mushtaq Sukhera from post
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday removed Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera as the federal tax ombudsman.
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera was appointed as the federal tax ombudsman in August 2017 during Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) tenure.
The notification “regarding appointment of Mr Muhstaq Ahmed Sukhera (Retd-PSP/BS-22) as the Federal Tax Ombudsman is hereby withdrawn ab initio”, it was stated in a recent notification.
A reference has been prepared against the former IGP Punjab for his alleged failure to prevent the 2014 tragedy in Lahore’s Model Town.
The federal government had forwarded the reference to the Law Ministry.
It is believed that Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Hussain Khokhar, a former judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, will assume the office as the federal tax ombudsman.
