“Sarfaraz Ahmed will captain the side in the World Cup,” said Inzamam, as he announced the final squad at a press conference.
“We realized in the recently-concluded series against England that Pakistan needs experienced pace attack,” he said. “Hence, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir have been included in the squad.”
Inzamam said that Wahab Riaz was not completely disregarded by the squad.
“He was recently played in a Test match,” said Inzamam. “His (Wahab Riaz) performance in domestic cricket has also been impressive. I spoke with the coach and the captain then arrived at the decision to include him in the squad.”
Inzamam said that Pakistan had plenty of options when it came to openers. He said that Hafeez was considered as a third option while even Haris Sohail could do the same.
Inzamam said that the series against England contained some positive elements as well.
“Why aren’t you noticing that the English bowlers also went for expensive overs? Our batsmen performed well. And obviously England is the number one squad in the world and they are playing at home,” he said.
