US reports confirm Aasia Bibi has arrived in Canada
Aasia Bibi, who was released from prison seven months ago after facing a death sentence over blasphemy has arrived in Canada, foreign publications confirmed citing her lawyer, Saif Ul Malook.
Sources reported that the Christian woman departed last night and was on her way to be reunited with her daughters in Canada.
Foreign Office (FO) sources confirmed on Wednesday that the blasphemy accused who was acquitted by the Supreme Court on October 31 last year, has left Pakistan.
A statement from the British Pakistani Christian Association also announced that they had “received confirmation from a British diplomat that Aasia Bibi had safely exited Pakistan”.
After her acquittal in October 2018, Aasia Bibi remained in the safe custody of the Pakistan army as she sought asylum in a Western country.
She was convicted in 2010 for offending the Prophet Mohammed under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws and was behind the bars eight years.
Over time, lynch mobs went furious demanding her execution following the offence.
The workers had refused to drink from a bucket of water Bibi had touched because she was not Muslim. At the time, Bibi said the case was a matter of women who didn’t like her “taking revenge.”
