Police arrest three suspects for 10-year-old girl’s rape and murder
ISLAMABAD: Three suspects accused of the rape-and-murder of 10-year-old Farishta have been arrested, claimed police on Wednesday.
According to Islamabad police, the main accused of the rape and murder has been arrested along with his two accomplices. All three main hail from Afghanistan.
Farishta’s body was recovered from a forest in the Shahzad Town area on Tuesday. Her body bore torture marks that indicated that she was sexually abused before being murdered.
Farishta’s father Gul Nabi said that he had tried to file a missing person report with police on May 15 when she had gone missing but police did not oblige him.
The father said that the Chak Shahzad police station SHO did not register an FIR and instead, mistreated Gul Nabi. It was on May 19 that an FIR was registered for the missing girl and a day later, her body was found from the forrest.
Farishta’s family belongs to Mohmand Agency. Her father claimed that Polyclinic Hospital refused to conduct a postmortem report of the child.
Farishta’s family, relatives and activists staged a sit-in protest at Tarmari Chowk, placing her body on the street.
DIG Operations, Waqaruddin Syed, suspended the SHO who had delayed registering the FIR and directed Umar Khan, the superintendent of police (SP) for SP Rawal, to present a report on the matter.
National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser said that justice would be served to Farishta no matter the cost.
Speaking to media after meeting with the 10-year-old victim’s father, Qaiser said that an inquiry will be held at all levels to determine who had committed the act.
