PML-N to stay out of the recent NAB chairman issue: Shehbaz Sharif
LAHORE: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif tweeted on Friday that the PML-N would stay out of the recent issue involving NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.
Shehbaz said that the PML-N’s viewpoint on NAB was principled. He said that the PML-N would continue to voice its concerns on all platforms.
“PML-N has nothing to do with anybody’s private life and will stick to its political and legal narrative,” he tweeted.
A private TV channel ran a story on Thursday about Chairman NAB Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, the contents of which were refuted by the anti-graft bureau.
NAB claimed that the audio, video clips ran by the news channel were ‘against facts, fabricated and based on lies’.
NAB, in its rebuttal, also said that this was the work of a group of blackmailers who wanted to damage the reputation of the Justice (r) Javed Iqbal and the institution.
The watchdog said that despite pressure, it had arrested the two suspects from the group and filed references against them.
The latest controversy surrounding the NAB chairman came a few days after Justice (r) Javed Iqbal was strongly criticised by opposition members for allegedly giving an interview to a journalist.
According to the column penned by the journalist, the NAB chairman has spoken out against both the government and opposition parties.
Former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari said that his party would take action against the NAB chairman.
“His post does not allow him to give interviews,” he said. “We will take action against him.”
