PML-N holds solidarity rally as Nawaz heads back to jail

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) plans to hold a large solidarity rally as former prime minister Nawaz Sharif heads back to prison, on Tuesday.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s six week interim bail has expired hence the former prime minister will surrender himself to authorities at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Nawaz Sharif is serving a 10-year jail term after being convicted for owning assets beyond income in the Avenfield reference. He was granted interim bail by the apex court but barred from leaving the country. The Supreme Court had allowed the former prime minister to seek medical treatment from anywhere in Pakistan.

“Nawaz Sharif is in high spirits and the entire party stands united under his strong leadership,” said Asif Kirmani.

The PML-N stated on social media that the workers’ prayers and affection would accompany Nawaz Sharif to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz changed her display picture on Twitter. Her new display picture reads” Challo Challo Kot Lakhpat Jail Challo”

PML-N workers were urged by the party to gather at Shanghai flyover near Ferozpur at 7pm on Tuesday.

Maryam Nawaz will lead the rally and accompany her father in his car, said Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Apart from the rally, PML-N workers will also set up camps in different parts of the city to express their solidarity with Nawaz Sharif.
