ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties claimed on Sunday that they would launch individual party protests after Eid-ul-Fitr and call an APC which will be chaired by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

“Each political party has its own manifesto and narrative but since the challenges faced by Pakistan are so big, we have decided to sit together to devise an anti-government strategy to rid the people of these incompetent rulers,” said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The PPP chairman had invited opposition leaders from the PML-N, JUI-F, PTM, JI and other parties to an Iftar party to hold talks on devising a strategy against the government.

A joint presser by the opposition parties was held after the Iftar. Joining Bilawal were PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, National Party’s (NP) Hasil Bizenjo, Qaumi Watan Party’s (QWP) Aftab Sherpao and other leaders were also present.

“An All Parties Conference (APC) will be convened after Eid to chalk out a joint strategy,” said Bilawal. “The APC will be chaired by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.”

Maulana Fazlur Rehman spoke after Bilawal, thanking him for hosting opposition leaders for Iftar. Fazlur Rehman said that the opposition had joined hands after it became clear to all that Pakistan was being counted among the world’s worst functioning states.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that people were paying the price for the controversial general elections 2018.

“We reject the sort of accountability being conducted in Pakistan,” he said. “Such political victimisation takes place only in dictatorships,” he added.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz thanked Bilawal for inviting all leaders to the Iftar party. She said that both governments had been able to complete their tenures due to the charter of democracy.

“We will add more points to the Charter of Democracy (CoD),” she said.
