MNA Ali Wazir sent to 8-day remand after court appearance
PESHAWAR: MNA Ali Wazir has been produced in an anti-terrorism court in Bannu on Monday, a day after his arrest during a clash between security forces and workers of Pashtun Tahuffuz Movement (PTM).
According to sources, ATC judge handed over the lawmaker to the counter-terrorism department (CTD) on an eight-day physical remand.
Geo quoted a source as saying that Ali Wazir has been moved to Peshawar from Bannu.
At least three people died and scores of others were wounded on Sunday when a clash broke out between security forces and PTM workers after an alleged attack on a military post.
According to a statement issued by the army, a group led by Mohsin Javed and Ali Wazir, assaulted Kharqamar check post, Boyya, North Waziristan tribal district this morning.
“They wanted to exert pressure for release of suspected terrorists’ facilitator arrested the other day.
Troops at the check post exercised maximum restraint in the face of provocation and direct firing on the post. Due to firing of the group 5 Army soldiers got injured,” it said.
“In exchange of fire 3 individuals who attacked the post lost their lives and 10 got injured. All injured evacuated to Army Hospital for treatment.”
Ali Wazir along with 8 individuals have been arrested while Mohsin Javed is at large after inciting the crowd, it added.
PTM head Manzoor Pashteen, on the other hand, denied allegations that his workers were armed.
In a video statement, Pashteen urged his workers to remain peaceful.
Governor, CM meet NW jirga
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and Governor Shah Farman met a jirga in North Wazirsitan in a bid to de-escalate the tensions.
Civil and military officials were also present in the meeting.
