Cricketer Asif Ali’s daughter passes away in US hospital

NEW YORK: Pakistani batsman Asif Ali’s daughter passed away on Sunday, losing the battle to stage IV cancer.

According to the Pakistan cricket team media manager, two-year-old Noor Fatima breathed her last at a hospital in New York after battling cancer.

Noor had been shifted to the hospital last month. Immediately after news broke of her demise, condolences from around the world poured in for Asif Ali.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi offered his condolences. He offered his sympathies for the grieving family.

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan took to Twitter to share his condolence. “May Allah rest the departed soul in the eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude,” he tweeted.

Asif Ali is currently in England, where he played the last of the five-match Pakistan-England series. He scored 22 runs in the fifth match of the series at Headingley which Pakistan lost.

Before flying to England for the series, Asif had thanked the US authorities in a tweet for issuing visa to his daughter for medical treatment ‘within an hour’.

The pinch-hitter came to know that his daughter had been diagnosed with cancer while he was playing in the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Islamabad United shared a condolence message on Noor’s demise.

“ISLU family pays its deepest condolences to @AasifAli2018 on the tragic loss of his daughter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Asif & his family. Asif is a great example of strength & courage. He is an inspiration to us,” tweeted the franchise.
