Badin woman commits suicide over social media blackmailing
Badin police arrests prime suspect accused of blackmailing the woman
BADIN: Police took into custody the prime suspect who had allegedly blackmailed a woman using edited photos. The woman had killed herself and taken the names of three men in a suicide note.
Eighteen-year-old Anila Parmar took her life on Monday by consuming poison. In her suicide note, she stated,”I want to live but Soam Meghwar, Mahesh and Ashok have made my life miserable.”
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Badin Hassan Sardar Niazi came to know about the incident after it was shared on social media by activists.
He visited the Parmar family on Monday and promised them that action against the perpetrators will be taken.
SSP Niazi said that the prime suspect had been arrested while the other two were still at large. He said that raids were being conducted to arrest the two.
The victim’s father, Dr Lakhman Parmar, stated in the FIR that three men were blackmailing his daughter since the past six months by sending Anila doctored images of her.
According to Dr Parman, they had extorted his daughter and made her pay Rs50,000 per month for the past six months by sending her the doctored images.
The FIR was registered against the suspects under Pakistan Penal Code Sections 322 (manslaughter), 506 (2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 500 (defamation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
According to Dr Kumar, the men had sent a doctored image of Anila to her fiance, after which he called off his engagement with her.
When Anila got engaged to another man, they sent the doctored images to him too. The other man, also, called off his engagement with Anila which ultimately led to her committing suicide.
Dr Kumar said that Anila had killed herself as she was sick and tired of being blackmailed.
