ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid mistakenly referred to Firdous Ashiq Awan as ‘sahab’ during their press conference, on Thursday.

The ‘sahab’ and ‘sahiba’ controversy seems to be dragging on. One day after Prime Minister Imran Khan referred to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as ‘sahiba’, the federal minister for railways also fumbled with the words.

Holding a press conference with Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Sheikh Rashid referred to her as ‘sahab’.

“I do not hold the ministry of information,” he said. “Firdous Ashiq Awan has that portfolio. She is someone experienced and capable,” he added.

Sheikh Rashid then said that to run the information ministry was the job of Firdous Ashiq Awan ‘sahib’. When a reporter pointed it out, the federal minister said, “I said no such thing, any way a fight has been started in the country over ‘sahab and sahiba’. Firdous is a strong woman and won’t really be affected by my statement.”

Sheikh Rashid said that the topic of ‘sahib’ and ‘sahiba’ had gone overboard in the country. He said that Prime Minister Khan had called Bilawal sahiba, now everyone needed to get over it.

“Bilawal is just cranky these days,” he said.

Sheikh Rashid said that the agenda of these ‘thieves’ was to restrain Imran Khan from performing his duties as prime minister.
