ISPR releases list of retired army officers who can appear on TV as defence analysts
RAWALPINDI: The ISPR on Monday released a list of all persons who can appear on TV as defence analysts. According to the notification issued by the media wing of the armed forces, these persons can appear on TV as defence analyst and their views are independently their own and not of the armed forces’.
The validity of this notification is till December 31, 2019.
“Any other retired officers desirous to appear as Defence Analyst can connect with the ISPR to obtain the procedural NOC,” read the notification.
The list contains a total number of 26 retired armed forces personnel.
PEMRA had issued instructions to TV channels that only those retired army officers could appear on news and current affairs talk shows who were cleared by the ISPR.
The media regulatory authority had noted that discussions involving retired army personnel ‘mostly switch from security matters to politics, which inadvertently embroils military officers into political debate’. PEMRA said that this was ‘undesirable’.
PEMRA also directed TV channels to introduce the retired military officers simply as ‘guests’ if they were called to discuss ‘non-security’ issues.
