Bilawal inaugurates Thar coal power plant, calls it ‘good governance’

THARPARKAR: ‘It was the dream of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to put an end to the electricity crisis in the country with the help of coal in Thar’, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said this today while inaugurating the first coal-based power plant at Thar.

During the inauguration ceremony today, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, senior leaders of PPP and the provincial cabinet members were present in large attendance at Thar.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of power plant, Chairman PPP said that “This is what we call good governance what PPP has done in Thar.”

‘Thar power plant is great success and entire country will get benefit from the electricity that will be produced from Thar plant’, Bilawal said.

“This is Pakistan’s most successful project. This is ‘Naya Thar and Naya Pakistan,” added Bilawal.

Bilawal also said that the electricity bills of people living in Thar and Islamkot will be paid by the government of Sindh.

PPP chairman stressed light on opening new campus of NED university in Thar.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Thar coal power project has a capacity to generate 660 megawatts.

This project consists of two power generation units of 330MW each.

Under CPEC flagship public-private partnership of Sindh government, this project was completed in 10 years.

Bilawal on his official twitter handle wrote “I just inaugurated Thar coal power plant. The highest man made structure in Pakistan.”

In another tweet, PPP chairman posted an image and wrote “Thar coal mine. The lowest point in Pakistan.”

The Sindh government has given the sovereign guarantee of $700 million for this project.
