Asia Bibi will be leaving Pakistan ‘very soon’: PM Khan
ISLAMABAD: Asia Bibi will be leaving Pakistan ‘very soon’, said Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to foreign journalists on various topics from militancy to peace with India.
The Pakistani premier was asked about Asia Bibi on which he revealed that the Pakistani Christian who was accused of blasphemy, would be leaving the country ‘very soon’.
“Mr Khan told the BBC that she would be departing the country ‘very soon’,” read a report in the BBC.
Imran Khan said that there is ‘a little complication’ but that Asia Bibi was safe and she would be leaving the country ‘in weeks’.
Asia Bibi was accused of committing blasphemy due to which she had been languishing in jail since 2009. The Supreme Court of Pakistan acquitted her of all blasphemy charges in October last year.
Protests broke out across the country by ultra-right parties. A review petition was filed against the decision to acquit Asia Bibi but the Supreme Court ruled against it and declared that she was free of all charges.
