Asad Umar posts first tweet after departure as finance minister

ISLAMABAD: Senior PTI leader Asad Umar has expressed his gratitude to people who expressed support with him following his removal as Finance Minister in a major cabinet reshuffle.

PM Imran Khan announced a cabinet shakeup that included the departure of Finance Minister Asad Umar.

He was replaced with Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, who already served as finance minister from 2010-2013 under the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party.

Sheikh has been appointed as Adviser to PM Khan on Finance.

Asad Umar said that he was offered a new portfolio but he persuaded PM Khan against accepting it.

“want to thank the many many people who expressed support over the last 2 days. It is the millions of selfless, ideological, passionate supporters who are guardians of ideology of the tehreek. It’s your passion from which Imran Khan & his team draw energy. May Allah bless you all,” Umar said.

Asad Umar said he still strongly believed Khan was the best hope for the country.

According to a notification, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has been handed the science and technology ministry, while retired Brigadier Ijaz Ahmed Shah has been made Interior Minister in place of Shehryar Aridi.

Energy expert Nadeem Babar has been appointed to lead the petroleum ministry.
