Alia Bhatt took inspiration from Sanam Saeed’s character to prep for role
Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt revealed in her latest interview that Sanam Saeed’s character from Zindagi Gulzar Hai helped her prepare for her role in Kalank.
Kalank is one of the most awaited Bollywood films of this year as it features an ensemble cast. The movie stars Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
Alia Bhatt, of course, plays the female lead in the movie. The actress made headlines in India when she said that in order to prepare for her role in Kalank, she was told by the director to watch Pakistani drama serial Zindagi Gulzar Hai.
Alia said that her character Roop in Kalank deals with situations like Kashaf does in Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Alia said that like Kashaf, Roop is also vulnerable yet strong and is not happy since she has a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders.
“It is difficult (to bring so many) layers – unhappy, vulnerable and strong to a character. Abhishek kept saying that I should be irritating,” she said.
Alia Bhatt said that she had to refine her Hindi in the movie as her character was required to speak a lot of Urdu. Alia revealed that in order to prep for the role, she also watched old films like Mughal-e-Azam and Umrao Jaan to perfect bodily grace and language.
As expected, Sanam Saeed was over the moon when she heard that Alia had taken inspiration from her character in Zindagi Gulzar Hai.
“If this isn’t made up news, I’m tickled pink,” she wrote on Twitter. “Best wishes.”
Kalank will release in theatres on April 17, 2019.
