ISLAMABAD: Reacting to demands for wearing military caps during the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Karachi, Pakistan army chief spokesman Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor said sports are beyond politics.

In a Twitter statement on Thursday, Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan armed forces humbly acknowledge the nation’s love and support.

He, however, said that sports were beyond politics and that country’s love for armed forces was beyond such gesture alone.

“Dear Pakistanis u are desirous to put on military style caps/shirts during PSL Final. Pak Armed Forces humbly acknowledge your love & support. Sports are beyond politics & we believe that our bondage is beyond such gestures alone. Enjoy the game in CityOfLights,” he added.

Bajwa’s tweet came days after Indian cricket team wore army caps in the third match against Australia. India went on to lose the series 3-2.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), taking a strong notice, asked ICC to take action against Indian cricket team.
